Yalfest 2016!
Dear reader,
A day full of books, authors and excitement!
On sunday the 24th of april I went to the very first yalfest, and I need to share the excitement!
What happend?
Let's start at the beginning, ofcourse.
At 10:40, there were already alot of people standing in line waiting to get in. So I did what every full hormoned and excited girl did (well all I could see were girls but some boys were at the event as well) and stood in line. And just before the massive rainstorm I got in, and got my little yalfest festivalbracelet on (you know the ones you WILL NEVER get off, only if you have a chainsaw. okay bit overreacting scissors did just fine) got my goodiebag and we were ready to go.
We began the day with an panel with the authors, where the host asked questions about the experience of being at events like these, and how they deal with critisism ect. The authors who were present were: Stephanie Perkins, Ransom Riggs, Tahereh Mafi, Lucy Ivison, Becky Alberttalli, Arwen Alys Dayton and Tom Ellen.
After the pannel we had lunch brake. You went upstairs and on the first floor you got your bag with some food and drinks. The entire break lasted about an hour. And during this hour you got the chance to shop, get a (fake)tattoo and alot more! From someone who learns to organize events at school I also looked alot at the organsing part. And what I noticed is that during the breaks of the event they quite underrastemated the amount of people. The stands where you could get the tattoo, or where you could by some fandom jewerly were all really close to eachother so waiting in line was crazy sometimes, and most times you had no idea where the line even began. So that was quite annoying. But the things you could buy and do, were really cool! I bought some fandom jewerly (Will be featured in the haul!) at this stand with two lovely helpfull people. The company is called: My movie stuff. And thanks agains to the lovely woman and man who helped me!
After the luch break, it was time for the photomoment with the authors. A long line but WORTH IT! Unfortunatly we didn't really have time to actually talk to the authors but a quick 'hello, how are you? *CAMERA FLASHES*, thank you so much have a nice day and goodluck!' was already great!!
After that I wanted to go bookshopping, but unfortunatley they didn't really have English books... So I was pretty disapointed. But I did picked up one of those books where you fill in stuff, and some other cute little things (ofcourse will be featured in the haul post!). In the upstairs area (where also the fandom jewerly booth was!) were also booths where you could get a 'Tattoo', a glitter 'tattoo' and a drawing or phoƫm of and about yourself. Unfortunatley I have only done 1 of these activities because the lines were ridiculous, I only got the 'tattoo' of the deathly hallows!
And then it was time for the Workshop. We would have a workshop on vlogging by Sanne from the youtube channel Books and quills. She would be there through a skype call but due to bad wifi and bad weather we couldn't really hear Sanne and they had to cancel it, but promised us that we would still get the workshop but differently. So they sended in a dutch writer who awnserd some questions and told some stories about being a writer.
I really enjoyed Yalfest. There are some things that they deffinitley need to do different next year, but for a first time.. they did pretty good :)
I hope you enjoyed my little post on YALFEST! and expect a haul post very soon :)
Love, me.
